| Tony Wright
was first elected to the House of Commons in 1992 as MP for Cannock and
Burntwood, and since 1997 he has been the MP for Cannock Chase. As well as his parliamentary duties representing the constituency of Cannock Chase, Tony currently chairs the Select Committee on Public Administration. He also chairs a cross-party group of MPs interested in constitutional affairs and citizenship issues. From 1997 to 1998, he served as the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Lord Chancellor. Aside from his parliamentary duties, Tony writes books, articles and pamphlets on British politics, as well as co-editing The Political Quarterly. Recent books include Why Vote Labour? (1997) and The British Political Process (2000). He has also been the chair of the Fabian Society and co-chair of the Campaign for Freedom of Information. Before entering Parliament, Tony was a lecturer in politics at the University of Birmingham, where he is now an honorary professor. He was educated at the London School of Economics and Balliol College, Oxford, and was a Kennedy Scholar at Harvard University. |
